Designing job descriptions

One of the cornerstones of any organizations HR infrastructure should be a complete, up-to-date library of job descriptions. Properly created content here should form a platform for success in a  multitude of employee related functions – recruitment, performance management and training/development as well as pay related initiatives such as job evaluation and salary benchmarking.

Without decent job descriptions, an organization will lack structure and employees will be unsure of how they fit in. Yet, in our experience, very few organizations have this resource to hand. Reasons for this are obvious – lack of time or internal resources, as well as the pace of organizational change that makes keeping job descriptions up to date a bit like painting the Forth Bridge.

Innecto can provide the expertise necessary to create robust job descriptions for your organization. We can either help you to do it yourselves, by providing training for internal managers, with document templates and instructions on how to undertake the process internally, or we can provide a team of consultants to handle the work ourselves, either via group sessions with key managers and employees, or by more in depth one-to-one sessions with incumbents.

Consideration needs to be given to the ultimate JD purpose – if jobs are to be evaluated, we will need to gather evidence around the agreed factors as well as standard information such as duties and responsibilities.
