As organisations increasingly internationalise their business operations, the need for short and/or long term international assignments increases. 

Pay arrangements for International Assignees can be extremely confusing.  In addition to all the pay considerations of a home country based employee, there are issues of social security, taxes, various allowances (e.g. cost of living adjustments / housing provision) and international pensions as well as a whole range of other policy issues to be addressed and the need to put a range of additional processes in place.  By their  very nature International assignees often tend to be senior and/or specialist/highly skilled individuals, meaning even more pressure to get things right.  Unfortunately both the cost of using international transfers and the rate of failure of such assignments are high.
